Bio

Dr. Williams is a Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Utah, CSO of two companies—Purgo Scientific and Vetlen Advanced Veterinary Devices—and VP Microbiology and New Technologies at Curza Global. He received a BS of Microbiology from Weber State University, and PhD of Biomedical Engineering from the University of Utah. Dr. Williams’ research portfolio is broad and includes mitigating biofilm-related infections such as those that affect bone fractures or soft tissue wounds, developing medical devices and technologies to address these infections, investigating bone pathologies such as heterotopic ossification, and developing relevant animal models of these paradigms. Over the past thirteen years, he has been awarded more than $24M in DoD funding and helped raise over $7M in private capital for companies. He credits this funding for catalyzing technologies that have significant potential to improve patient care for injured Service Members and civilians. He was part of the team that developed osseointegrated implant technology for transfemoral amputees, which now return hundreds of patients each year to improved lifestyles. Dr. Williams’ most recently advanced technology, the Purgo Pouch, received Breakthrough Device Designation by the FDA in November 2023. The technology was launched into veterinary medicine in 2024 as the Vetlen Pouch, where it is currently healing up dogs, cats, and horses across the world. Dr. Williams also enjoys writing Sci-Fi action novels, doing book signings at Barnes & Noble, writing movie scripts, exercising, and spending time with family in his spare time.
